  • Meeting minutes approved, had been posted
  • Student updates
    o Announcements started again,
    o Hub productions, coming up Wonka and Alice Wonderland
    o Intramurals volleyball and basketballs tournaments
    o Skiing and snowboarding electives starting
    o Gr8 trip end of year
    o fundraising Halloween howler went well, set up at Fire and Ice ($1900 profit) as
    well, used book fair on-going, $4000 so far
    o Seating assignment for bus, hotel, parent chaperones coming up next
    o Fire and Ice last minute but came together, BIA approval went well, may need
    another fundraiser so the remaining lollipops
    o Candygrams starting up again, extra lollipops go toward that?
  • Principal update – Mrs Steel
    o Shannon covering Ms Jenny, can remain on council but no voting rights
    o Allison Jones promoted so Jocelyn is now supporting the school on Mondays
    o Report cards going out Fri 16 th , 1 mark not 4, 1 language mark, additional box is
    for K-2 for screening re: language screening
    o School improvement plan in line with board,
     academic math and literacy is high so want to stay consistent, using
    screener K-2 measures fluency among other things, CRA model Concrete,
    Representation and Abstract
     engagement, higher attendance, mental health development and allow
    students to recognize their own mental health, photos and write ups in hall
    has been popular, live announcements, EQAO practice runs, moderator
    run through with Muskoka Falls and BPS, voluntary survey Feb 26 th assist
    with demographics, planning and engagement, protected under FOI, K-6
    with guardian, 7-12 in class,

* electives starting up, pink shirt day Feb 22 nd , PA Day switch because of eclipse,
Mar 6 and 7 class photo, March 10-15 Break,
* question about legacy fund? Slide is broken and repair is $3000, can that cover
that cost?

* Lost so much tech in the last year, can’t update Chromebooks, bulk purchase =
bulk loss, 1:1 devices for higher grades, board provides some budget 1:5 for those
things, more funding would get closer to 1:1

  • Teacher Update – Mr A
    o Skis were big purchase, damaged skis need replacing, 24 pairs of skis, 28 boots
    o Looking forward to a ski team soon, this Friday need snow!
    o Races coming up and into March
    o Staffing, everyone is very busy, lots of new gym activities are popular
    o Intermediate update, date management and lots of graphs in the hall, attendance
    project went well
    o Lions speech contest coming up
    o Science fair last week, kids were proud of their work
  • Attendance since COVID has dropped, engagement is being encouraged by the board to
    get it up, waiting to see what “marketing and campaign” is coming up, social media
    updates would help, council can engage, already started in school with principal greeting
    and involve intermediate kids for intramurals
  • Stats for attendance, 1 day every 2 weeks = 1.5 years of missed schooling, 10 min late
    per week = .5 year
  • Fundraising
    o Howler was well attended, events were $400 and silent auction was $1500
    o gift baskets or card box sales again would be helpful, very successful
  • Treasurer
    o $700-800 raised from poinsettia and skate
    o Request for bussing? $200 needed ($100 x2) and went out
    o Mabels Labels $61
    o Motion to move funds for skis, $1000 had been donated, $500 each from Rotary
    and Lions, balance to be paid from fund — Motioned Sarah and Steph
    o More conversation about what to do with legacy funding and future, best to keep
    some around for future projects but need to spend something moving forward
    including other play equipment and sound equipment
  • Action for getting a quote on a new purple slide within $3000-4000, look to getting a
    motion if in reason
  • Paul Davis Grant $500 fee for parent engagement plan for BPS and Macaulay, security,
    safety and online presentation “Meet You at BPS Night”, info going out soon
  • Will the school grow if borders get extended? Macaulay not affected, schools in the south
    or other specific schools
