Administrative updates

Director’s update

Director Hahn acknowledged the professional leadership that exists in TLDSB and highlighted a professional development event that took place last week for custodial, maintenance, and transportation staff.

In the ongoing efforts to collect voice from across the system, Hahn noted the various ways for TLDSB to receive input, including the upcoming Director’s Student Voice Summits, the recent Student Census, and meetings with school council chairs.

As part of the director’s update, the following operational updates were provided by department:

  • Budgeting for the 2026-2027 school year
  • Proactively preparing for the Buy Ontario Act by supporting local and Canadian businesses through procurement and purchasing

Facilities and Transportation Services

Executive Officer of Facilities Services, Transportation Services, and Capital Innovation, Kim Horrigan, shared how the teams she leads closely collaborate with other departments and schools to ensure their work meets the TLDSB Strategic Plan goal of creating physically and emotionally safe, healthy learning environments for all students and staff.

Horrigan reported that there are 130 school renewal proposals planned for the summer that address accessibility, ventilation, washrooms, roofs, and heating systems, as well as 51 classrooms that will receive a furniture refresh.

Horrigan shared that Transportation Services works hard to ensure reliable, safe, and equitable access to transportation, and the department has been monitoring the protocols for inclement weather and incident reporting to ensure transparency for TLDSB families.

Human Resources Services

Superintendent of Human Resources Services, Jennifer Johnston, shared with trustees that the department, specifically the leadership of senior manager of labour relations, Lisa Andersen, and district principal, Nathan Stephenson, who alongside their teams works to bring significant physical and emotional energy to ensure students have what they need to succeed. She highlighted the collaborative and respectful relationship TLDSB has with the union and federations partners, which sets a solid foundation for effective employee and labour relations.

Johnston noted that there have been a number of new regulations introduced, which require significant updates to board policies and procedures. Trustees will learn more about these policy changes at upcoming governance and policy meetings.

Technology Services

Superintendent of Learning responsible for Technology Services, Kim Williams, acknowledged the work of the department management team lead by Chief Technology Services manager, Steven Roffe, and managers Tad Hawkins, Erin Rowsell, Brad Pears, and Debi Taylor.
