Meeting called to order on April 28th at 6:00pm.

    • Zoo Trip 
    • BMLS – Grade 8s will follow a high school schedule (“class in a class”) Try to get them used to what a typical day in High School will look like. 

Sports

  • Badminton: Grades 7 & 8
  • Track & Field: Booked for June 4 (Rain date is June 5)
    • Must occur before EQAO ends (June 11)

Talent Show

  • May 8 – Poster to be released soon for both show times

Mr. Wolgemuth – Thank you for Maple Day! We made six litres for our pancakes last week!

Kindergarten (Bound & Knight)

  • Outdoor learning in forest school – try to focus more on learning outside 
  • Coop student (Grade 12) setting up dramatic play areas
  • Kinder Yard updates ongoing – students enjoy it, no update on referb
  • Tania working on extending the yard

Mr. Sleeman’s Class

  • Daily fraction operations
  • Pattern unit nearing completion
  • Novel study on systemic racism
  • Matter and particle behavior
  • Periodic table investigations
  1. Principal Update from Tania Steele

School Improvement Plan

PLCs were held for K to 3 teachers with a focus on student achievement mainly in foundational literacy. We are working hard at implementing researched based strategies to move students to the next level.

  • Paul Davis – Successful! 20 parents attended. Good turnout for Muskoka. Not recorded, but resources were to be sent (Tania to follow up). Typically presents to Grades 7 & 8 but included Grade 6s this time.
  • Pancake day – Awesome success 
  • Harmony Movement Words Matter Campaign – Parent night for engagement. Will begin in the fall. We were told we were accepted last month. Create an evening on what the campaign means and what’s happening in the school. How to stop harmful language. 
  • TLAC – 8 students from Mac will be going
  •  EQA O– will reach out for scribes. Lat week of May and first week of June.
  •  Track and field on June 4th  after EQAO. Needs to happen before the regional one on the 11th
  • Canoeing will not happen this year as Mr. A is on leave
  •  Band – Mrs Brown and Mrs C Lee have taken on the band, Band will go to

Wonderland 9th 

  1. Fundraising – Update from Sam on Shannon’s behalf

Updates

  • No fundraising activity since last meeting – we need something 
  • Easter event didn’t happen
  • Secured $500 from Board (Parents Reaching Out Program)

Upcoming Fundraisers

  • Palaeontologist Event
    • Thursday, May 22 – catered 
    • 45-minute talk (6–7 PM), dinner before (5–6 PM)
    • Family event: “Meet You at Macaulay”
  • Trunk Sale
    • Originally proposed: June 5 ($20/car, games, BBQ, freezies)
    • Concerns: Conflicts with EQAO, Track & Field, and tight scheduling
    • Revised: Possibly June 7 (Saturday), $25/car, 8 AM–12 PM 
    • Concerns about parking, permits, janitor cost – is it worth it?
    • Decision: Will not proceed
  • Don’s Bakery
    • Made-to-order
    • 25% proceeds – not that much take away 
    • Becky will investigate
  • Krispy Kreme
    • Already booked for next year, ready to rock. 
  1. Financials

Overview: 

  • $3,500 currently in the account
  • Bussing costs covered with slight carryover
  • Some expenses pending (maple equipment, tarmac, construction) – Has Brian put in his receipts? 
  • Legacy fund exists but not shouldn’t be to ‘dipped into’
  1. District Updates
  • Weather Days: Wes decides between school closures vs. bus cancellations
  • Attendance: Still low board-wide; weather days are a factor, those who can walk often stay home. 

Technology:

  • Reduction in 1:1 tech for Grades 7 & 8
  • Moving toward 1:3 ratio due to concerns about screen use
  • EQAO Prep: Ongoing

Budget:

  •      96% of Peg Grant spent
  • 32% of PRO Grant spent – voted to return unused funds to school

Staffing

  • Shortages due to leaves
  • Shortage of supply teachers – some French teachers reassigned 
  • Focus on encouraging more people to pursue teaching

Community Engagement:

  • Sam Bigley recognized as community officer
  • Tim Hortons Huntsville – Smile Cookie support for six schools, made a lot of money, something to think about and maybe reach out to Tims. 
  • McHappy Day – Tania volunteering (May 11)
  1. Round the Table 
    • $100 Trip – Still happening
    • Kinder Yard Updates – Still ongoing, children are enjoying it
    • Tania – Actively working on the yard extension
