Passing of former TLDSB director of education, Evelyn Brown

Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) is deeply saddened by the passing of former director of education, Evelyn Brown.

Evelyn was a passionate educator who cared deeply for her students, staff, and the progression of public education. She was first hired by the Muskoka Board of Education in1969 as a supply elementary teacher. She later moved through various roles, including curriculum consultant, vice-principal, and principal before becoming a superintendent of learning of schools for the Muskoka Board of Education. Evelyn was then appointed as the director of education in 1997 for the Muskoka Board of Education. In 1998, TLDSB was formed with the amalgamation of the Victoria County Board of Education, the Muskoka Board of Education, and the Haliburton County Board of Education. Evelyn was instrumental in leading the trustees, senior team, and administration in becoming one organization, and continued her role as director of education for TLDSB until her retirement in 2001.

In her role as a leader, she loved helping others, was respected, cared for her communities deeply, and became a figure of female leadership for many who followed in her career footsteps.

Our condolences go out to the Brown family during this difficult time. To honour her contributions to the Board, flags will be flown at half-mast on the day of the memorial, Wednesday, January 22.

TLDSB school/education centre closure – March 11, 2026

Due to the current and ongoing freezing rain, TLDSB has made the decision to close all schools, education centres, and child care centres in schools today, Wednesday, March 11.

Note: the Virtual Learning Centre remains open to students.

This decision was made with the safety of our students and staff as the top priority.

Please note, schools will not be moving to online learning.

We know this is an unusual circumstance and we appreciate parents/guardians for their understanding during this time.
